Instagram New Gwanghwamun Square
The current state of Gwanghwamun Square is of paramount importance within the geographical and historical context of Seoul, South Korea. Its current form and spatial arrangement within the urban fabric is the result of a nuanced historical evolution in Korea. Our aim was to preserve its architectural and historical uniqueness while creating an aesthetically pleasing environment that could function as a vibrant hub of public life. This effort is in line with the overall vision for the future of Seoul outlined in the competition brief, which emphasises pedestrian spaces and public event venues as key components of the square's organisational framework.
